Just As You Are!

Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

Prayer is unique because our relationship with Jesus is unique; and it’s unique for every situation.

Praying can be intense or it can be the simple act of talking to God in our mind while we’re doing things. Praying is nothing more than talking to Jesus, like we would each other or our best friend…

There is something really beautiful about being able to sit and talk to someone who listens, without any form of judgment or condemnation, no matter what honest feelings are shared.

We can talk to Him about anything that comes to our minds, in any position; whether it is out loud or with others.

As we learn to be sensitive to the Holy Spirit, He will urge us to pray about something or someone specific… go ahead and do it without worrying if there is a right or wrong way to do it. There is your way…and that’s perfect!

He does not want ritual or religious repetition. He wants you in all your ways; even if those ways are behaviors like anger (even anger at Him), depressed, concerned, scared or even happy. He wants us especially when we’re happy; because that is the time we most likely forget He’s there.

More than anything, He wants us to talk to Him with an open honest heart. A willingness to expose those feelings we want to hide naturally out of fear or pride and embarrassment. Remember, we can share anything without having any fear that He will be mad. He won’t. He loves us… just the way we are!

Let’s trust ourselves to believe we can hear Him. His voice is gentle and never pushy, although it may be urgent at times. His Word tells us who He is. He never violates who He is and what He says about Himself, EVER!

Be at ease with prayer. There are no rituals concerning prayer nor are there in having a wonderful relationship with another person and God qualifies as a person.

A rule I have had for years is: to treat the Lord Jesus Christ as a personal friend. His is not a creed, a mere doctrine, but it is He Himself we have.

I think that this is an important message and that it’s something more people should know. My sense is that at times people pray without even knowing it, I’ve certainly heard people automatically start talking to Him when they feel scared! I also feel as if some people skip talking to God because they have an aversion to the formal format they’ve been exposed to. I love the freedom of being able to have a dialogue with God all the time, of living my life in His presence, knowing His Spirit is in me.

You do great work here! Keep it up!
